Subteam

Recovery

Recovery designs, integrates, and tests parachutes, deployment electronics, separation and retention hardware, and recovery-bay systems so the vehicle can return intact and be located after flight.

What the team does

Recovery is responsible for bringing the vehicle back safely after ascent. The subteam works on parachute sizing and packing, recovery computers, separation and retention systems, GPS and tracking hardware, recovery-bay integration, and the ground tests that verify deployment before flight.

Members learn to combine mechanical hardware and electronics into a system that must work after vibration, acceleration, pressure change, and a high-energy flight. Testing, force calculations, wiring, CAD, troubleshooting, and careful integration are central to the work.
